United Way This year’s company campaign included ballons filled with $$’s and prizes (with most of the $$ prizes donated back to United Way by employees!) and a “breakfast with the Boss” (cost of the breakfast was donated to United Way) served to employees by HMI’s management team.

Utica College Science Fair The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, annually provides a forum for high school students from over 40 countries to showcase their independent research. The ISEF is the premier science competition in the world, exclusively for students in grades 9-12. Yearly, millions of students compete worldwide in local science fairs; the winners of these events go on to participate in ISEF-affiliated regional and state fairs from which the best win the opportunity to attend the ISEF and compete for nearly $4 million in prizes and scholarships. The Intel ISEF 2008 presented by Agilent Technologies will be held in May 2008 in Atlanta, GA. www.societyforscience.org/isef/ HMI has been the prime local sponsor of the Utica College Regional Science Fair, usually held in March. This fair stimulates the active interest in science and engineering in the community and provides an education experience as well as giving public recognition to talented local students. This is a judged fair and HMI engineers serve as volunteer judges.

The Children’s Museum Science Fair This museum, located in Utica, promotes a judged science fair each year in the early Spring that is open to students in grades 2nd through 6th. HMI has participated as one of the sponsors, with an interactive display and, handouts. Employees volunteer to set up the booth, judge the entries and answer questions about Pratt & Whitney and HMI. In March 2007, 19 projects were entered by 29 students.
