Mark Hewko, General Manager
September 2009: Mark Hewko succeeds Ron Chandler as General Manager of Pratt & Whitney - HMI Metal Powders in Clayville, NY. Mark has held several positions at Carrier Corporation since 1992 responsible for quality, production, manufacturing engineering and new production introduction to name a few. Prior to moving back to upstate NY with his wife and children, Mark was Operations Manager for Carrier Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina. Welcome Mark Hewko!

HMI Recertified as a UTC “ACE GOLD Site”
In 2009 all employees were challenged to complete ACE Certification and we did it - 100%! At all employee levels, employees are trained in the fundamentals of the ACE operating system, with utilization of it's tools - is what will help us survive the economic conditions in planning for HMI's future.

Employees Celebrating their accomplishments and Successes. Guests from Pratt & Whitney's management team in East Hartford were on hand to congratulate employees for their outstanding efforts in achieving significant company-wide milestones.

  2009: HMI has been recommended for VPP Star Reapproval
HMI was one of the first 500 sites nationwide in the VPP Star program in 2000 and now there are over 2,000 sites that fly the VPP Star Flag above their place of employment. The Voluntary Protection Program is administered by OSHA, recognizing Best in Class companies that go above and beyond.. OSHA makes the selection. In the past several years HMI has made great strides in having an a safer environment to work and will continue on that path. The assessment team praised HMI on it's cleanliness and to the Commitment to Health & Safety. One of the comments in their report, "General overall housekeeping program and facilities organization is extraordinary using their 6S philosophy (sort, straighten, shine, standardize, sustain, and safety,".
   
  May 2009:
HMI Employees featured in a Pratt & Whitney video that will be seen throughout P&W on situational awareness. Our major contribution will be HMI's considerable amount of stairs that our employees must use daily and our low incidence rate for any injuries involving our stairways.

HMI receives Pratt & Whitney Ergonomic Innovation Awards for Propane Tank Lifting Device and Crucible Ram Removal System. There were 68 entries from 20+ Pratt & Whitney sites globally. "Making Pratt & Whitney - HMI Metal Powders a more ergonomically friendlier environment."

Ergonomics – Best Practice
June 2007. HMI recognized at the first annual Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY)/ OSHA Safety Awards, receiving 1st Place for “Best Safety Practice – Ergonomics” in the fewer than 200 employees category.

   
Frugal Award Frugal Award
EH&S Fellow, Leonard Walsh, announced HMI as one of the 1st Place winners in the Frugal Category. Each year Walsh recognizes P&W employees with Ergomonic Awards for innovatative and problem-solving approaches. Those in the frugal category range from $350 to the more ambitious bottom-line strategies of up to $10,000 implementation.
   
Safety Award Safety Milestone
June 2007. HMI recognized for reaching the milestone for over 1 million hours worked without a lost time injury by at the Pratt & Whitney EH&S Conference held in Groton, CT. HMI has gone 99 months without a lost time injury. This is due to hard work and high safety consciousness of all employees.
   

ISO 14001

 

ISO 14001 July 2007. HMI has retained its ISO 14001 certification after its annual Surveillance Audit.
